So apparently it is 2022 already!
2021 was supposed to be the year after COVID…and we all know how well that went. It has been a busy year. It started with another two week secondment to COVID ICU that was repeated a month later. The rest of the year was split between my usual clinical work and a national role managing six projects across UK NHS services. I had a utility room built, sanded the whole ground floor of the house, lived without carpet for 5 months and have, generally, been busy. I’ve been stressed, continued with the usual level of anxiety I live with, and parted with my second favourite car of all time…my 1990 Landrover 110 2.5NA.
2021 did, however, end of a high note; I was finally appointed to a consultant job in my favourite hospital (Brother Handro: “does that mean you’ll be working more, or less….I forget…”).
What about hobby…
We did start 2021 with some hobby goals I seem to remember (Brother Handro: “No…dont…”)
1) Adeptus titanicus
This didnt progress massively…there were a few dedicated sessions, and ALOT of 3D printing thanks to GrimDark Terrain, but it never progressed to finished models.
Name plates are bought, and most of the flames are done.

2) Death Korps of Krieg
Now we’re talking! The awesome Fall of Damochan event, a writeup of which is ‘in the offing’ as they say, was a 1500pt Milita/Solar only event. this pushed me to complete the majority of the infantry for my DKOK (Der H: “That’s 110 mooks, in case you were wondering”) along with a Leman Russ and 3 quad mortars.
The event itself shall be covered elsewhere, but this is where the money was this year. It is a great feeling to have that iconic army done (Brother Handro: “Dont you have all the buttons left to do…and the plastics…and TWO Gorgons…”)

3) Oak and Iron
HA! Nope….move on.
These beasties had a first pass with some contrast paints, they’re ok, but certainly not done! Must try harder/

4) Zone Mortalis
Ok, not great…We got several games in, and its certainly playable. But the details aren’t done, the doors aren’t finished (although they are printed!)
This is an easy win for this year if we get a few days at it. There’re a lot of details on these boards, and thanks to the Mortian kickstarter for ZM add-ons, we have more gribbles we can add!
5) Play some Games
Smashed this out of the park. Multiple games of ZM with Brother Handro, Frontline with Brother Handro, Road to Terra Melos event, Damochan, Heresy Scot in Stirling….great to be back with some gamers rolling dice and being tabled! Hell, I even won some games!
10/10, will do again!
Once again Instagram has been a big push in the right direction. Seeing other people’s work drives my creativity and inspires me to push on, and it serves as a handy reminder (in the quieter weeks) of just how much hobby we’ve been able to do in 2021.
Keep an eye out for some goals for 2022, the return of monthly pledges, and events galore…
